1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing from Landau Books.
Landau Books is an Australian publishing business offering historical fiction and other literary works in digital format.
These terms explain how purchases, payments, digital delivery and refunds are handled when purchasing products directly through our website.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any rights or remedies available under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable consumer protection legislation.
2. Products Available
Our online store primarily offers downloadable e-books, including the Langbourne Series and other publications by Alan P. Landau and Brenda Kate.
Products are supplied electronically in the file format specified in their descriptions, generally EPUB.
Printed books and audiobooks may also be available through independent retailers linked from our website.
Purchases made directly from those retailers are subject to their applicable terms and conditions.
3. Prices and Currency
Unless otherwise stated, prices on the Landau Books website are displayed and charged in United States dollars (USD).
Customers purchasing from Australia or other countries may be charged an equivalent amount in their local currency by their bank or payment provider.
The final converted amount may vary according to applicable exchange rates and any fees charged by the customer's financial institution.
Any applicable taxes or mandatory charges collected by Landau Books will be disclosed before payment is completed.
We reserve the right to change advertised prices or promotional offers, but such changes will not affect purchases already completed.
4. Payment Processing
Payments are processed securely through the payment services available at checkout.
Landau Books does not ordinarily receive or retain customers' complete credit or debit card details.
After successful payment, customers should receive an order confirmation or payment acknowledgement through the checkout system.
If payment is unsuccessful, the order may not be completed.
If a customer believes they have been charged incorrectly or more than once, they should contact us so that we can investigate and arrange an appropriate correction or refund.
5. Digital Delivery
E-books purchased directly from Landau Books are delivered electronically.
Our e-books are generally supplied as EPUB files to the email address provided during checkout, or through another electronic delivery method specified at purchase.
Customers should ensure that the email address provided is accurate.
Delivery normally occurs automatically following successful payment, although occasional delays may arise from payment verification, email filtering or technical issues.
Customers who have not received their purchase should first check their email inbox and spam or junk folders.
If the file or download instructions have not arrived, please contact:
We will make reasonable efforts to resolve delivery difficulties promptly.
No physical product will be shipped for a purchase expressly described as a digital e-book.
6. Device Compatibility
Our e-books are generally supplied in EPUB format.
Customers are responsible for ensuring that their intended device or reading application supports the advertised file format, subject to any representations made by Landau Books and applicable consumer rights.
Most modern e-book reading applications support EPUB files, although the method of transferring and opening them varies between devices.
Kindle users may need to use Amazon's supported EPUB conversion or Send to Kindle functionality.
Instructions for downloading and transferring e-books are provided on relevant product pages.
If a customer experiences difficulties opening or transferring a purchased file, we encourage them to contact us for assistance.
7. Digital Product Licence
Purchasing an e-book grants the customer a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the supplied digital publication for personal reading and enjoyment.
The purchase does not transfer ownership of the copyright or other intellectual property rights in the publication.
Unless authorised by the copyright owner or permitted by law, customers may not:
- Redistribute or sell copies of the digital publication.
- Upload the publication to public file-sharing websites.
- Reproduce the publication for commercial distribution.
- Make the publication available to others through unauthorised sharing or distribution.
Customers may retain and use their legitimately purchased e-books on their own compatible devices for personal use.
8. Change-of-Mind Refunds
Due to the nature of digital publications, Landau Books does not generally provide refunds where a customer has simply changed their mind about a correctly supplied e-book.
Examples may include purchasing a book and subsequently deciding not to read it, or discovering that the same publication is available elsewhere at a lower price.
We may consider exceptional circumstances individually.
This policy does not affect a customer's statutory rights to a refund or other remedy where a product fails to meet applicable consumer guarantees.
9. Faulty Products, Incorrect Files and Consumer Guarantees
We want every customer to receive the publication they purchased in a usable and satisfactory condition.
If an e-book is corrupted, incomplete, materially different from its description, incorrectly supplied or otherwise fails to meet applicable consumer guarantees, customers should contact us.
Depending on the nature of the problem and applicable law, remedies may include:
- Supplying a corrected or replacement file.
- Providing reasonable technical assistance.
- Repairing or otherwise remedying a minor problem within a reasonable time.
- Providing a refund where required by law.
Under the Australian Consumer Law, customers may be entitled to choose a refund or replacement for a major failure involving goods. Other remedies may apply to problems that are not major.
Landau Books will not require customers to waive their statutory consumer rights as a condition of receiving assistance.
10. Requesting a Refund or Assistance
Customers seeking assistance or a refund should email:
Please include, where reasonably available:
- Your name.
- The email address used for the purchase.
- The title of the publication purchased.
- The approximate date of purchase.
- A brief description of the problem.
We will review the request and respond within a reasonable period.
Where a refund is approved or required by law, it will ordinarily be processed through the original payment method where practicable.
The time taken for refunded funds to appear may depend on the payment provider or financial institution.
11. Purchases Through Other Retailers
Landau Books publications are also available through independent third-party retailers and distributors.
These may include Amazon, Audible and other online or physical booksellers.
Where a customer purchases directly from an independent retailer, that retailer is ordinarily responsible for processing the transaction and handling the customer's initial refund or delivery inquiries.
Customers should consult the retailer's terms and contact its customer service department.
Nothing in this section limits any legal rights or obligations that may apply to Landau Books or the relevant retailer.
12. Related Comic Publications
Landau Books also promotes the Langbourne Comic and Of Sand and Stars Comic projects.
Digital comics sold through their respective websites may be supplied through member-account access rather than conventional downloadable e-book files.
Such purchases are subject to the separate Comic Access Terms displayed on the relevant website.
Purchasing an e-book from Landau Books does not automatically grant paid membership or access to separately sold comic publications.
Similarly, purchasing comic access does not automatically include an e-book edition unless expressly stated.
13. Privacy and Security
Personal information provided during purchases is handled in accordance with our Privacy & Cookies Policy.
We take reasonable measures to safeguard purchase information and rely on established payment-processing and website service providers.

14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in our products, payment arrangements, delivery systems or applicable law.
Any changes will be published on our website with an updated revision date.
Changes will not retrospectively remove customers' existing contractual or statutory rights.
15. Governing Law and Consumer Rights
These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, subject to any mandatory rights and protections available under applicable laws.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies consumer guarantees or other rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.
